Run your Windows based Programs on your Mac with these vanilla Wine Builds. They are compiled from the sources of winehq.org and they come as a neat.app with my custom starter. Jan 03, 2012 Wine (Windows Emulator) is a free and open-source application that aims to allow programs / softwares written for Microsoft Windows to run on Unix-like operating system such as Linux, BSD, Solaris and Mac OS X. That said if you own Mac OS X based computers, you can run Windows applications such as Notepad, Mikrotik Winbox and more. Wine, which stands for Wine Is Not an Emulator, takes a different approach: since macOS is POSIX compliant, Wine translates the Windows API calls into POSIX calls in order to be understood by Apple’s operating system. Sometimes a customization of Wine can cause an application to work, but this change cannot be incorporated into Wine for some reason. To help overcome current deficiencies in Wine, various third party applications for end users have been made over the years.
